The Wake In Fright Trust was established in 2009 to vest the rights in the film Wake In Fright from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) enabling the Film to be released commercially on a not for profit basis. The proceeds from the film received by the Wake In Fright Trust are currently applied to an annual Award in association with the Australian Film Television and Radio School, for the best Paper by a Graduate of the Masters of Film Business.
Wake in Fright’s editor, Anthony Buckley, began to search in 1994 for a better-preserved copy of the film in an uncut state. Ten years later, in Pittsburgh, Buckley found the negatives of Wake in Fright in a shipping container labelled “For Destruction”. The copyright to Wake In Fright was held by ASIC as NLT Productions Pty Ltd, the production company had been de-registered in the mid 1990s. NLT Productions Pty Ltd was founded by Jack Neary, Bobby Limb and Les Tinker. Raena Lea-Shannon as Lawyer for Anthony Buckley assisted Anthony Buckley, on a pro bono basis to rescue the copyright in Wake In Fright and to establish the Wake In Fright Trust.
